Simple Lighting in Softimage XSI
DVD Review
The content is very good. Rossano hits the high points of lighting and includes some very important comments on each topic. However, the presentation method, a fast-paced non-interactive movie, is a poor way to train people. Technologies and methods exist that do a good job of training but this DVD is not one of them. His "XSI Illuminated" is a very good text book and I was hoping for more with the DVD.
I found the screen shots to be very blurred and sometimes hard to read the menus, there is constant jumping around that is quite confusing to the newcomer to XSI, his menu selections move at the speed of light so that it is really difficult to see what he just did and have time to learn the steps, and my overall impression is that he just rushed through the presentation after spending a good effort at setting up and planning it. This presentation is still much better than the DVD set that Softimage sells or gives away with XSI 4. Rossano speaks clearly, which many of their presenters don't.
I recommend buying this because there is so little else available.
