Bionatics > NatFX 3.0
for Maya
complete review coming in october
Bionatics NatFX3.0 is a plugin that enables you to model plants in 3D with tremendous ease. Bridging the gap between 2Dtextured billboards and detailed 3D models, natFX uses a revolutionary hybrid technology that blends these two techniques to create rich vegetation using a minimum number of polygons.
Introducing natFX
Driven by AMAP procedural simulation technology, natFX plants come richly
textured and can be appropriately aged and set in any of the four seasons.
Especially useful for those in the gaming and architectural industry, natFX offers
those options that many have been seeking.
Realism, optimization, low polygon count, tight integration, great rendering,
ease, rapidity and complete control. Don't spend precious hours texturing,
constructing and optimizing plants, as these are hours should be spent
developing your project. A few clicks of the mouse and your 20-year-old Cypress
in summer is there.

Like movie studio sets, only what is seen is built, thus saving production time
and money. With natFX you get to determine which part of the tree has coarse
billboards and which part has detailed geometry. Use the natFX Sub
Component Selection to turn parts of your tree into detailed geometry and the
rest into billboards. A geometry combined with billboards maintains the tree's
three-dimensional integrity and quality, while retaining a minimum number of
polygons.

Work efficiently with textures by automatically sharing them amongst scene
objects, controlling their resolutions and contents as required.
In addition to the selective per-branch billboarding techniques mentioned
above, natFX offers many other ways of polygonally simplifying your trees and
plants, allowing you to freely limit the total number of polygons and textures,
approximating geometry in different ways for different types of tree
components, automatic and manual trimming.
