Hunter Parks >Animating Tank Treads

for Maya

level: beginner-intermediate

This tutorial can also be applied to any animation that involves a moving belt. For Example: an esculator, conveyer belt, luggage carousel at an airport, or even belts on an engine. Let's begin . . .

Step 1: Create the tread Path.

So select the CV curve tool and draw your tread path. Be sure to snap the last point to the first point, with the point snap tool, to create a seamless loop for the treads to follow.

Now select the curve and click Edit Curves->Close Curves. And now you have a tread path, which, by the way, can be any shape you want. Just as long as you connect the first and last point to make a loop. Moving along. . .
